Fire Permits

Burning during the Bush Fire Danger Period

The BFDP commenced on the 1st October 2021. From this date there are a number of steps landholders and property dwellers must take before lighting up until the end of the bush fire danger period.

Before you light up, you must do the following:

Seek an Application to Pile Burn

You must submit an ‘Application to Pile Burn’ with the Wollondilly Shire Council by contacting them on (02) 4677 1100. You can also download the form below.

Obtain a Fire Permit

A written NSW Rural Fire Service Fire Permit must be issued before you can conduct a burn. Lakesland Rural Fire Brigade issues fire permits to landholders and property dwellers. An authorised fire permit officer will attend your property before they issue a permit.

Notify Before You Burn

24 hours before you light up you must notify your neighbours and the NSW Rural Fire Service

If you do not provide notification, your neighbours may call 000 to report your fire and the local fire authority may take action.

Should you have any questions around what you can and can’t do during the Bush Fire Danger Period, then please get in touch.
