Before you light up, you must do the following:

Seek a General Approval To Burn

You must seek a ‘General Approval to Burn’ permit from the Wollondilly Shire Council by contacting them on (02) 4677 1100.

The following information has recently been made available via Wollondilly Shire Council’s facebook page:

Permits will soon be available for eligible residents via Wollondilly Shire Council’s Customer Portal.

📅 The permits will be available from Tuesday 1 April 2025 from 9am. If you haven’t already, please create a Customer Portal Account.

In order to obtain a General Approval to Burn permit, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

➡️ Your land zoning must be one of the following:

• RU1 – Primary Production

• RU2 – Rural Landscape

• RU4 – Primary Production Small Lots

• C3 – Environmental Management

• C4 – Environmental Living

➡️ Your land size must be equal to or greater than 4,000sqm

➡️ There must be no more than one dwelling per 4,000sqm

💻 Once you receive your permit, you must notify the Rural Fire Service (RFS) of your intention to burn via this website www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/ (Further instructions are listed on the permit). The permit will be valid through to 30 September 2025, unless the decision is made by the RFS to bring forward the Bushfire Danger Period.

☎️ If your property falls within the Fire and Rescue NSW districts of Picton and Warragamba, a permit must be obtained from the NSW Fire Brigade prior to the lighting of a fire at any time of the year. (Picton: 02 4634 6021 or 94931421) (Warragamba: 02 4787 8389 or 94931421).

🔥 You must have a copy of your General Approval to Burn Permit on you when you commence your burn.

💁 If you need assistance with setting yourself up with a Portal Account, or producing a permit, please contact Council’s Customer Service Team who are ready and waiting to assist you on 4677 1100.

🌳 If you don’t meet all of the criteria, your green lidded waste bin should be used to get rid of garden organics. Alternatively, it still might be possible for you to obtain a Pile Burn Application. For more information head to https://www.wollondilly.nsw.gov.au/home/features/burning-off
